Pleo the dinosaur has a complex array of sensors making him fully aware of theenvironment. Pleo the robotic dinosaur starts out as a one week old dinosaur, and will develop a unique personality based on the environment around him. He'll react to light, sound and movement, and show emotions ranging from sadness to joy, playful to scared.
From the moment Pleo is released into your home, he will begin to move around on his own, and develop his own personality. Don't expect Pleo to do as he is told, he's an animal, and as such can often react in an unpredictable manner. His awareness of his surroundings allows your Pleo to develop a unique personality whcih can include moods & habits.
Pleo the dinosaur goes through an evolution from hatchling through infant, and right through the juvenile stages. Pleo owners can find training tips and also download enhancements to Pleo's operating system from the Pleo World website.
Pleo's sophisticated awareness is controlled by a system of nearly 40 devices that allow him to see, sense, touch and react to the environment. He'll happily explore your home without remote control. He can detect bright lights, and track movement. Pleo the dinosaur even has stereo hearing to detect the origin of a sound and its loudness. Pleo has touch sensors on his chin, shoulders, legs, back and head allowing him to be fully aware of touch. Pleo even reacts to being hurt, and may limp!!!
Pleo communicates with honks and hoots, as well as other sounds.

Amazon has a lot of reviews from Pleo owners. There are a few problems like short battery life and paint coming off after a while, but many people find these "annoyances" notihng compared to the joy Pleo the dinosaur can brign to your life. Here are some comments from Pleo owners.

"Yes, Pleo is not a live animal. But for sure is he not an ordinary toy either - so the important thing is to have right expectations first. Pleo creates an illusion of life and does it remarkably well, considering the price. Many have complained about it being too high - but take a while and think about what this little masterpiece of engineering consists of! Even a PDA - which contains a fraction of the processing power inside Pleo, costs as much or even more, not speaking about the complex hardware, custom-developed Life OS etcetc. Pleo is most enjoyable, if treated like a live-pet - then it's really relaxing and funny experience. The Life OS 1.1 was just released, improving his behaviour considerably and hopefully the upgrades don't end here. To wrap it up - if you are a bit of "science-fiction-person", then this Ugobe Lifeform is an absolute must."
